Author Bae: Inspiring Storyteller
Share
Hi Deanna! It’s great to have you here. Let’s start with this. So, how long have you been writing, and what pushed you to publish this particular book?
Oh, I've been scribbling away since the fifth grade! Writing, for me, has always been this fantastic way to channel my emotions positively. But you know, I've always had this dream of being a published author. The nudge to get this book out there came from a friend who's an author too. She invited me to a writers' retreat, and there, I met some incredible women who encouraged me to finish my writing and publish the book.
You’re really interesting Deanna. Now, who's your book for, and what's the main message you want all readers to walk away with?
Thanks! So, I wrote this book for my younger self, a Deanna who felt lost and didn't believe in herself. The heart of the book is all about self-discovery, believing in your potential, and fully embracing your unique self.
So, Deanna, wow's life changed for you since becoming an author?
Becoming an author has been nothing short of amazing. After my first book, I got flooded with questions from people eager to write and publish their work. This opened up the doors for me to coach other budding authors. It's also given me a boost of self-confidence and allowed me to walk into spaces with a newfound confidence.
What was that feeling like when you sold your first copy?
Oh, that feeling was incredible. I set this simple goal for myself, thinking, "If I can just get 10 people outside of my family and friends to read my book, I'd be happy." But then, my book climbed to #2 in new releases for a mystery book series. I was over the moon, humbled, and just plain grateful.
How did you manage to push past your fears and boldly embrace your role as an author?
Fear can be a real roadblock, especially when it came to releasing my book. I mean, it felt like I was exposing my baby to the world. But then, I remembered a great quote from Lisa Nichols, the speaker and author. She said, "Fear is a story that we make up in our heads." That hit home. I realized that most of the things I was worried about probably wouldn't even happen. It also helped to remind myself that not everyone will love your book, and that's okay; it's all about personal preferences.
And now finally Deanna, any advice for those out there who want to write but are held back by fear?
I'd say, "Just go for it." You never know how your book can change someone's life. Even if that someone is you. Don't let fear hold you back from sharing your story and making a difference.
